Policy Holder protection Act 1991
As one of the world's leading offshore financial
centres, the Isle of Man has been granted 'Designated Territory'
status under the UK's Financial Services Act 1986.
Its financial regulations, therefore, meet with similar standards
to that of the UK.
The Isle of Man is the only offshore centre to have a statutory
compensation scheme that is incorporated in the Life Assurance
(Compensation of Policyholders) Regulations 1991.
Under these regulations, if a company was unable to meet its
liabilities, its clients would receive up to 90% of the amounts due
under their contracts. There is no limit on the amount payable,
and policy holders are protected irrespective of where they are resident.
